Countercurren t Chromatography is a newly -developed separation technology.It is a liquid -liquid partitio n chro-matography without using any solid s upport material a nd in its separatio n process,the irreversible adsorpt ion and the contaminatio n,inactivation and degeneration of samples,which would h e caused by its suppo rts,can be compl etely ruled out so that large quantities of high pure compound s can be separated form complex mixtures.This paper gives a brief introduction of the characteristics,history and application of t his technology and present s some suggestions on how this technology serves the moderniz ation of tradition al Chinese medicine in such fields as the preparation o f high pure standard mat erials,the R&D of new dr ugs,the production of high -quality raw materials a nd the quality contro l of production processes.
