The editor's note: A general Conference of great significance on the quality of Chinese materia medica was held in Denver, USA on July 27,2001, at which the American experts in the field of medicinal plants had got a lot of different answers from the Chinese scholars engaged in the management of the quality of Chinese herbal medicine, clearing up a number of doubts and promoting the American attendees to correctly understand the quality of Chinese materia medica and its management and dissipating their misunderstanding in this regard.
