This article analyzes the condition and problems existing in patent work of the Institute of Materia Medica, the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences in the last 20 years or more, discusses the close relationship between the study of the Chinese medicine and natural medicinal products and the protection of their intellectual property right and puts forward the argument that the protection of intellectual property right is one of the signs of the modernization of traditional Chinese medicine.
