慢性疾病是一个复杂性疾病。本文阐述了在慢性疾病防治方面现有的西医药模式和传统的中医药模式所存在的局限性, 分析讨论了慢性疾病所具有的复杂系统行为特征以及诊治过程中出现的问题, 提出将系统科学的理论和分析方法有机地融入中医药学将有助于慢性疾病防治的临床研究, 并在理论依据和创新思路方面, 为进一步建立中医药干预慢性疾病临床疗效评价的指标体系、模型体系和方法体系提供参考。

Chronic disease is a complex process. In this paper, authors analyze the limits of both west medication and traditional Chinese medicines in preventing and treating chronic diseases. It is believed that chronic diseases have a sophisticated behavior of their own, and the treatment shall be tailored to such behavior. Authors suggest that the theory and approaches of systems science be made part of the theoretical basis and approaches for TCM based chronic disease prevention and treatment. They also propose to establish an innovative indicator system for evaluating the therapeutic effects of chronic diseases treatment with traditional Chinese medicine, and associated models and processes.
