编者按:2009年11月9～11日,国家科技部会同国务院14个部委和广东省人民政府在广州隆重举办了"2009'传统医药国际科技大会暨博览会",大会由9个学术分会和6个特别专题活动组成3000余人参加了本次大会.本文是全国政协副主席、科技部部长、本次大会主席万钢先生在大会所做的大会主旨报告.

On 9~11, November 2009, the China Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST) joined with the other14 ministries of The State Council and the Provincial Government of Guangdong; successfully hosted the "International Conference ＆Exposition of Traditional Medicine 2009" at Guangzhou, China. The exposition had 9 academic divisions（streams) and 6 special topics. Altogether, 3,000 plus delegates joined the entire event. This key note report was presented by Dr. Wan Gang, Vice Chairman of Chinese People's Political Consultative Committee（CPPCC）, Minister of Science and Technology（MOST）, and Chairman of the Exposition. The report gave an account and analysis on several important issues of traditional medicines-the pragmatic meaning of promoting, modernizing and internationalizing traditional medicines; and the challenges and constructions of Traditional Chinese medicines （TCM） strategic thinking. Dr. Wan also explained the deeper meaning of "heritage", "innovate", "modernize", and "internationalize" in TCM context. The key note was brief but clear, thoughtful and with many new ideas. It is a directive internationalize r readers' future reference.
